Angel, indeed.

Many of my poems are about people who have greatly affected me. Angels (30 July 2013), is one such poem. Laura and I met when I was sixteen years old, during a pretty rough time in my life. I was not especially kind to her, but she was determined to reach me. Laura was an amazing person and an even better friend; an Angel walking among us. She changed lives here and in West Africa.
Laura was diagnosed with renal cancer not long after this picture was taken - the day she married the love of her life, Jeff. She spent the next four years fighting for every minute she had left. And Jeff, remarkable in his own right, fought with her, and for her. Together, they took some magnificent trips. They blessed friends and family with visits full of joy and laughter. For over twenty years, I was lucky enough to call this woman my friend. It was not long enough. Not even close.

I am currently obsessed with this poem/poet. I love her delivery. I love the way the poem sneaks up on you when you think you have it all...
